If we change product/section names what happens to existing links (e.g. search engines, external sites)?

URL unfriendly names? With space & ? " = etc? What happens?

If you change the name of the section or the name of a product, a new URL will be generated to reflect the name change.

Search engines will re-index the new URL & the old URL(s) will work forever. It is always backwards compatible. This is true for the current URL format as well (http://www.printfection.com/area51.279408)... it will simply do a 301 redirect to the new URL-- click on that link and look at your address bar in your web browser.

That said, after you get your product titles and sections setup, it's probably a good idea to try to keep most of them the same and not be re-naming them all the time, but in general people don't usually re-name their products/sections all the time just for fun, so there really shouldn't be anything to worry about. The occasional change will be just fine!

We strip out all bad characters like " & ( ) etc. and replace spaces with dashes (-) in the URL. Nothing to worry about on your end-- feel free to title your products and sections with as many "bad" characters as you want! We'll fix up your URLs automatically.
