Hi.

I've been trying to upload an image for a large cutting board 4 different times since last night. 3 of the 4 times it seemed to upload all the way, then instead of the screen updating to my image basket it come up to the login screen and tells me my session has timed out. I resign in and the image is not there. Why am I timing out when I'm uploading? I've tried it with MSN Explorer and Internet Explorer. I'm using this page to upload most of the time,: http://www.printfection.com/account/user_upload_image.php?&mindex=20 ,
but have also tried from the image basket as well. Help please. I'd really like to get some products in my store.

Dawn,

Which version of IE are you using?

How big is the image? (file size MB or GB, not length/width)

What is the image extension? (everything after the . (period) in the name of the file)

I'll look into it as soon as you can get me that info.

Kevin,

I am using version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519 of Internet Explorer

The image is 25.1 MB

It is a .png file

Thank you.

Dawn,

Would it be possible to reduce the file size? If the PNG is a 16-bit PNG you should be able to convert it to an 8-bit PNG without any noticeable loss of color but this would greatly reduce the file size.

Kevin,

I attempted to upload the image on another computer in my house, but it also timed out. I tried to save it as an 8 bit png as you suggested, but that made my image grayscale which is not what I want. I also went to PC Pitstop and did an upload test there and they said I'm getting 52 kilobytes per second upload. When I upload to printfection from either computer I'm only getting 5.6 kbs per second. I am going to have a friend attempt to upload my image from their home computer tonight. I have a DSL connection with Verizon. They have a cable connection with another provider. We'll see what this test shows.

I'll report the findings tomorrow.

Another thought, I have a computer with linux on it as opposed to Windows. Will printfection allow upload from Linux and does this seem like a good idea to test this as well?

Dawn,

Regarding your upload speed you might be getting 52 kiloBITSs in a speed test while our site is only showing 5.6 kiloBYTES because Bits is different than Bytes!

For example, Google tells me52 (kilobits per second) = 6.5 kilobytes per second

As you can see, the 5.6 kilobytes you're getting is not that much worse than the 6.5 kilobytes your speed test is showing.

Let us know the outcome of the test at your friend's house this evening. We'll try to do whatever we can to get your uploads to work!

I think Kevin will take over the Linux questions... but uploads should work in any supported web browser (ex. FireFox) no matter the platform.

Casey,

Thank you for clarifying this for me. I just did not understand and I apologize. As for linux, would that work for a good test? Thank you again.

Dawn,

I’ve outlined your problem below:

Aprox. File Size in Kilobytes: 25702
Aprox. Upload Speed in Kilybyes: 5.6
Aprox. Upload Time: 1:15 hours (25702 / 5.6 / 60 / 60)

Currently our sessions time out after an hour. I've upped the session time to two hours which should be published tonight. Hopefully this will solve your problem.

By the way, we do have a file size limit of 30MB so make sure your files don't exceed that.

I have a huge thank you and also a huge apology to make to Kevin and Casey. After doing the upload test on a friends system I found the problems must be totally on my end. The friends system on a cable modem was able to upload my image in 10 mins while my DSL connection was erroring out and if it did do the entire upload would time out at 1 hour before Kevin changed the window to 2 hours. I attemped the upload on my own system after the 2 hour window was instituted, but once again it errored out after a short amount of time. I'd like to thank you both for helping me so much this week with troubleshooting and I hope the changes you made will be helpful to others in the future. For now I'll get my images as they are completed uploaded through the friends computer and try and troubleshoot the problems on my end. Dawn
