Hi guys,
Today in NYC is the first day of the New York Comicon (http://www.nycomiccon.com/App/homepage.cfm?moduleid=2577&appname=100453), at the Javits Center. While I don't think this show will ever topple the show (San Diego), it's quickly become a very close second...
...yes, I'm in "the biz," but unfortunately can't attend the NYC show this year, as I have a family commitment this weekend.
Anyway, if PF has the time and resources, one idea is to take a booth at one of these big comic shows...as many of you know, the t-shirts market caters a lot to the geek chic / nerd sub-culture. (Including some of my own designs (http://www.printfection.com/diggertees)!)
Now I'm not suggesting PF set-up printing equipment, to churn out custom tees on-site...probably not feasable. What PF can do is show off some of the better designs in the marketplace AND set-up four or five computer stations at their booth, where con attendees can click around the PF marketplace, order, etc.
One of the PF stores that def should be shown off to this crowd would of course be Retro-Future (http://www.printfection.com/retro-future) (Wow, another plug! What can I say, I love that store / designs.) They'd eat it right up.
I know that at the San Diego Con one year (maybe around 2000 or 2001), Mile High Comics did this sort of thing at their table. Mile High is one of the biggest comic book retailers in world. So, one year in lieu of actually any bringing stock (comics, graphic novels, etc.), they simply set-up maybe four computer stations hooked right into their site (http://www.milehighcomics.com/), where people could test-drive it and order merch, right there. Mile High was also smart to have a special incentive discount code for use that con weekend, which was also good for anyone shopping online on their site, whether they were actually at the con or not. (The discount code was good from anywhere.)
It's possible that the PF guys already do this at trade (industry only) apparel shows, but could be fan-tas-tic at conusmer shows, like the big comic cons!
Best,
D
