View Full Version : selling wholesale
I've looked around for an answer to this one, but have been unable to find it. I have an oportunity to sell some shirts to a museum, but they won't buy if they can't buy wholesale. Is there a way to set this up?

While there's no way fpr them to set up a wholesale account the way they may be used to doing, PF gives you the ability to set your markup based on how many of an item the customer is ordering. That shows up in the Pricing tab on a product page, and you set the markup for the items with the "Edit Product Info" button within a section.
The PF cost for the item decreases with the quantity and you can set your markups to do the same. With the light colored shirts you can approach the 50% discount they probably expect; it's harder to get there with the dark colored shirts.
So if their order's big enough they can get a pretty good discount on the shirts, depending on how you've set your own markups. The only problem is that if they happen to be in Colorado they'll end up paying sales tax on the order too, kind of a deal killer for a wholesale order.
Thanks,Saga Shirts, it's the taxes that have them going the other way. However, they aren't in Colorado, I'll have to try and convince them that they don't have to pay the taxes. I'm pretty confused about that part. Their orders would only be in the handfuls, so they wouldn't get a very large discount. BTW, if they order 2 of one design, 3 of another and 5 of another, does the discount continue to increase even though they didn't buy all the same design? Or do they have to buy at least the same style shirt? They really would like to buy some of my shirts, but I would like to get back with them with an intelligent answer.

The only problem is that if they happen to be in Colorado they'll end up paying sales tax on the order too, kind of a deal killer for a wholesale order. If you have customer(s) buying your items that are actual wholesalers (i.e. a real business that is going to re-sell the PF items) AND they are in Colorado AND they don't want to pay sales tax, they can contact us and we can set their account to tax-exempt once we get a resale tax license from them. Please remember this applies ONLY to orders being shipped within the state of Colorado. If the purchasing customer is having the item(s) shipped outside Colorado we're not going to charge tax so there is nothing to worry about for these wholesale customers.
Thanks, Casey. I also found the answer to the buying multiple designs and/or shirts.
