Some excellent suggestions are popping up for SEO. Forums, chat logs, archiving your old copies of newsletters, writing reviews, and changing your descriptions every once in a while especially if an item isnt selling as well as you expected.

Part of white-hat SEO is understanding what search sites are trying to do and working with it. Black-hat SEO is purposely trying to undermine it. Google of course being the big #1 at the moment. If you read Googles official posts, their blog, their beta-labs forum if you have access to it... its plain that they want to be an "answer" search. Its not that they down-rate shops, they just purposely up-rate sites which their indexing algorythm thinks is an answer site.

Part of the indexing goes something like this....
Old copy of web site from old indexing visit
New copy of website from new indexing visit
Has text which is not part of the web page design changed?

That is why some sites automatically seem to jump high in ratings. They are continually changing text. Question/Answer sites of course, forums, blogs, etc. I see people ask every so often in these forums why their shop lost rating. Did google slap them? Static shops might start out ok but tend to slide down just because dynamic sites go up.

I am NOT recommending creating or abusing the things that were suggested just for advertising purposes. One present black-hat seo tactic is creating sites which are nothing but a page of keyword and links which make no sense. We have seen some spam posts here doing that. They are abusing our forum for SEO purposes. Very irritating.

But there are also white-hat SEO ways to make use of this knowledge. There are ways to use blogs, forums, social sites, chat logs, etc etc in ways that match their desires and do not violate their terms of service. If anyone is interested in using such things, and using them honorably, then the people on this forum are more than willing to discuss it.
