I just opened my Printfection store (still in progress, really) and just wanted to let you know a couple strategies I'll be employing to market my shop.

1. StumbleUpon - I've used this social bookmarking tool with great success on a number of sites. (I'm senior editor for an online marketing firm.)

2. A blog - I purchased the domain associated with my store - originalmetees.com - the index URL is redirected to my store, but I added a directory for a Wordpress blog (originalmetees.com/blog). I'm in the process of customizing the store and blog to look alike - and I can use the blog as an ongoing content publisher and submit it to social networking sites.

3. Article marketing - if you write articles with links back to your store - and submit them to article syndication sites - it can help you rank in the search engines.

Anyway, just wanted to share my tips. I use them for my clients everyday!

Isn't originalme talking about "being viral"? "Being viral" is not a state of being - it requires action on multiple levels, some of which originalme was identifying.

Newtee,

I used to think that's how it works. Just put up something on the web - anywhere - MySpace, a website, a photo - anything. If it's good, people will just like it and that's that.

But life doesn't work like that. That's why marketing and advertising are million/billion dollar industries.

In fact, there are entire agencies/firms who are solely dedicated to helping create viral campaigns for their clients.

I definitely know how hard it can be to put yourself out there - but even the best Tshirts need some marketing.

Original Me,
I was wondering if you could supply more information about StumbleUpon...I looked at it and didn't really get the whole gist of it. I understand that it's just a toolbar that just takes you to random sites, but how could I use this to generate traffic? Do I just wait for someone to stumble upon me? Can I submit it to some database and hope I get popular? Can I promote myself in the StumbleUpon community? I also would like some hints/tips on Myspace (anyone out there is welcome to enlighten me). What's the best way to get people excited about your designs? So far, I've just been friend requesting a whole lot, writting little blog posts and sending out bulitines when I write a new blog post. I think I read somewhere on this forum that the key to real traffic from myspace was to join groups, but I looked for a tshirt group and there weren't any (?) can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks a WHOLE Bunch in advance!

Actually viral in the virtual world refers to the ability of something to spread itself. Such as computer viruses, some addictive YouTube videos, certain MP3's that you dont recommend because they fit a genre but because they stick in ytour head, email things that get passed around, etc.

Some shirt shops are definetly viral altho I think its a pretty difficult thing to try and do on purpose.

WARNING: this is an example of viral music. DO NOT click the listen to button unless you have other music available to wash your mind out with afterwards.

Anyone have any answers to my questions above? I'd really appreciate it, I'm at my wits end trying to think of more ways to get traffic (maybe some sales?) to my store.
Thanks!

Oh and Gandalf, love the Gummibär song! I'll have to buy it, I'm a fan of that kind of music, CrazyFrog is great!
