Is there an appreciable difference in the final printed product when the file is uploaded as PNG-24 vs PNG-8? I can save the file either way, and the 24 looks a lot better on a detailed colored graphic than the 8 version (but the file size is much bigger). I was however able to save a PNG-8 version of a colorful sphere shaped design that looked as good as the larger PNG-24 version by using the 256 color setting when saving the PNG-8. The two files look very good side by side (on the monitor) but will they look the same printed? The file size difference is worth the effort if the print quality is the same.

PNG-24 - 1.06 MB
PNG-8 - 300k

My concern is the color gradient needed to create a realistic looking sphere. It needs to be very soft and airbrush-like, and with the PNG-8, you get a little bit of scoring (like looking at a vinyl record) if anyone remembers those...

Personally, I've always gone with PNG-24, it preserves details much better than PNG-8. You want to go with better quality, so that it'll print nice. PNG-8's are just good for simple illustrations that have less than 256 colors.

OK, thanks.

I figured it would be better to use the PNG-24, I was just trying to be as efficient as possible with my uploads. Also, I wasn't sure how sensitive the printer is.
I had also read a tutorial online that mentioned the other POD and it stated that you shouldn't use PNG-8 at all. This worried me a bit since all of my early stuff is actually PNG-8 but it's single color and not very detailed so I think it'll be ok.
